DOUGLAS WILLIAM BOUSFIELD November 8, 1950 - September 19, 2010 We are sad to announce the death of our son, brother, husband, father and friend. Doug lost his year long battle with Multiple Myeloma, bone marrow cancer and kidney failure on Sunday morning at home. Doug's parents, Jack and Thelma Bousfield, his sister Pat Istead and her family Rick, Laura and Katherine will miss him. Doug was married to Elizabeth (Douglas) Bailey and had two daughters, Melissa and her family Kynnon, and grandson Rowan and Shannon. Doug married Bonnie and had one daughter Cynthia (Ami) Bousfield. Cynthia's boyfriend Joe lives with the family and was a good friend to Doug. Bonnie and Doug started Scorpio Communications 25 years ago. They all travelled across Canada before Cynthia started school. Doug installed cable tv headends, satellite dishes, security cameras and dvr recording equipment. He loved his work and all the people he met and friends he made. He worked long and hard and did the best job he knew how to do.

Glenforest's Algonquin trips were a special ritual for everyone who participated.  They included a lot of hard work like long portages into distant lakes and endless paddling across open water but it was all fun.  We never knew what the weather was going to throw at us but we survived and it was still fun.  Team work and overcoming adversity can bond people together and forge memories that last forever.

In the evenings, after all the tents were pitched and after all the meals were cooked and eaten and dishes done, after all the canoes had been pulled up onshore, we gathered together on the rocks around a warm, blazing campfire.

More specifically, as the loons called each other in the quiet stillness, we gathered near the fire around Doug and his wonderful guitar.  Doug had a great voice and an amazing talent as a musician.  He played every song we ever knew and we all sang and clapped and laughed together for hours and hours.  In many ways it was the highlight of our trips.

I carry many happy memories of those canoe trips long ago and I've been back to Algonquin many times since but I'll never forget the warmth and joy Doug brought to those chilly long weekends in May.

♦God Bless♦

I want to personally thank you both for your comments on my Dad’s memorial.  It means a lot to my whole family.  My Dad’s mother has printed and added Jim DiMarco’s post to her own book of memories, as have I.  The Algonquin trips were very special to my Dad, as were all of you. I am very interested in any photos of my father or stories you may have regarding his times with Glenforest. In the new year I will be scanning all his his pictures, slides and negatives from the trips and I will post on this site where they can be found. Thanks so very much. -Shannon Bousfield
